What is Aromatic Medicine?     What is Aromatology?

Aromatic medicine (also known as Aromatology) involves the use of essential oils applied intensively in therapeutic quantities, in far higher doses than are usually found in aromatherapy, through a variety of methods. It is a widely practiced therapy in France, although still relatively unknown in the UK.

Essential oils that may be used include niaouli, spearmint, cedarwood, palmarosa, sweet and red thyme, depending upon the presenting condition.

The Aromatologist (Aromatic Practitioner) uses knowledge of the chemical composition of these and other essential oils, hydrolats, their individual properties and effects to treat a wide variety of conditions in a clinical setting.

Massage is not necessary for the majority of treatments. Oils may be applied in a ‘drench’ directly onto an affected area that has been warmed to promote absorption into the skin. Additionally bespoke blends, lotions, inhalers, pessaries etc. may be prescribed as appropriate for home treatment once a thorough clinical assessment has been made.

This treatment is suitable for many conditions including depression, skin problems, digestive issues, menstrual problems and hormonal imbalances (menopause, PMT, thyroid problems etc). It appears particularly effective for treating leg ulcers, wounds and persistent bacterial infections.

Please note that a course of treatment is usually required when treating chronic conditions.

Treatments are suitable for all client groups and conditions.
