What is Aromatherapy?

The origins of aromatherapy are lost in the mists of time, but it is believed that the basic distillation of aromatic plants for their essences was practiced in Persia, Egypt and the Far East. These aromatic essences, or oils, were then used as medicines, perfumes and in religious ceremonies. Over time the knowledge and use of these essential oils spread through Greece, the Roman Empire and finally into Europe. Today aromatherapy is associated with massage, either in the beauty industry as a form of relaxation, or in a clinical setting for the treatment of a wide range of conditions.

Clinical Aromatherapy

Clinical Aromatherapy is an holistic approach to health care and can be used to encourage healing, as well as a preventative measure. It may encourage the immune system to work at its optimum level whilst promoting relaxation and reducing stress. It can be used side-by-side with other complementary therapies and with conventional treatments.

Aromatherapy Oils

In Clinical Aromatherapy I use therapeutic grade essential oils, often through massage, to address a wide range of conditions. I select the essential oils based on the condition being treated, the chemical properties of the oils in relation to the client before me. For example, muscular spasms may be treated with rosemary, marjoram, cypress and lemon essential oils. Conditions that can be treated include IBS, depression, eczema, candida, stress and muscular issues, to name but a few. Aromatherapy massage also offers relaxation and the opportunity to unwind, de-stress and take some 'time out'.

Aromatherapy in Pregnancy

Aromatherapy is a wonderful treatment to receive whilst pregnant, as it encourages the body to work at its best during this important time. I have trained in the use of essential oils for pregnancy, and any mother can be confident of a safe and therapeutic treatment.

A full consultation is taken at the first appointment. Treatments are suitable for all, including children, pregnant women, the elderly and frail.

Client review
"Sandra is a professional, experienced, attentive and kind person. I regularly visit her for aromatherapy massages and she mixes wonderfully fragranced oils together according to how she finds out I am feeling during each visit. After a few sessions she greatly reduced tightness in my lower back. I keep going back because I always sleep so well after her treatments and leave her house feeling so happy. Highly recommended.
